Getting Through Airport Security Smoothly

Airport security can be a smooth process, or at least you can do your best to keep the long line moving quickly. Whether you're traveling locally or internationally, there are a few simple things you can do to make it a speedier process:

  • Wear practical clothing. Be aware that you might need to remove clothing or accessories that have metal on them, such as belts. Some airports have more sensitive metal detectors than others. In the United States, the TSA requires passengers to remove their shoes before passing through the metal detector.
  • Have your boarding pass and ID ready before you enter the security line. After your documents are checked, keep your ID and boarding pass on your body at all times.
  • Be familiar with the prohibited items. Check on your airline's website for details, and opt for non-aerosol deodorants.
  • Organise your carry-on. Make it easy to remove items should you be asked to (such as laptops and electrical items). If traveling to the USA, be sure that any liquids or gels you are carrying are stored in bottles of 100ml or less, such as these Easy Squeeze Travel Bottles
